These Sweet Potato Biscuit Bites are for babies that are just starting baby led weaning and need a nutrient dense food that is easy to mush up in their mouth!

My first baby food post!! I am going to be posting an extensive post about how we are feeding Ruth next week, but for now I wanted to share this recipe that I made and she has been loving! I wanted to make something nutrient dense, easy for her to pick up and that turned to mush in her mouth pretty quickly. Baby led weaning is still new to us so having foods that we can add new flavors to and don’t make me too nervous is super helpful! I can’t get over how much I love to watch her figure out how to eat and taste new things for the first time. We gave her a lim to taste over the weekend expecting a super sour face and she only had a little one then kept on sucking on it!! Haha, she loves lime! So cute to see and I can already tell my girl is going to be a foodie just like her mama.

I would LOVE some feedback on how your kiddos like these sweet potato biscuit bites and if they work for you! Comment below on your experience so other mamas can see and we can all work towards getting these babies some good nutrients.

Sweet Potato Biscuit Bites (for babies)

  • Author: Kelsey

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups peeled and chopped sweet potatoes
  • ⅔ cup oats
  • 2 tablespoons flax seed meal
  • ½ cup almond flour
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons of spice of choice – see instructions

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Place a pot of water over high heat and bring to a boil. Add sweet potatoes and boiled until fork tender consistency (approx. 8 minutes), then let cool slightly.
  • Add oats in a food processor and blend on high until turning to a flour like consistency.
  • Add additional ingredients along with the boiled sweet potatoes in the processor and blend until smooth.
  • Option: to introduce new flavors to your baby, you can add 2 teaspoons of spice here.  I have tried garlic or cinnamon, you can do curry powder or whatever you like!
  • Scoop into a large zip lock bag, cut a hole in the corner of the bag and pipe in 1 inch by 3-4 inch strips on a parchment paper lined baking sheet.
  • Bake in oven for 10-15 minutes depending on how big your strips end up being.
  • Note: If you are making these for an older child, you may choose to add additional seasonings to enhance flavor such as salt and black pepper.

Notes

  • Store in the refrigerator for up to a week!
