Dark and Stormy

I am officially 24!  Not that I was ever unofficially 24… anyways, my birthday was on Tuesday!  I love birthdays. Not only because everyone showers you with love and presents… okay I guess thats basically why.  But also because it is an excuse to go out to dinner and indulge a bit.  Matt and I went to Tommy Bahama in Laguna Beach and had a wonderful night!  I started off with a Mai Tai and Matt got a Dark and Stormy.  I had one sip of his drink and was blown away.  I’m more of a beer and wine kinda gal but when I try a great cocktail it’s hard to beat.  After our macadamia nut encrusted goat cheese appetizer I decided to get one for myself and savored every sip.  The next day I thought it was appropriate to run right to the store after work and get my hands on some ginger beer, dark rum and limes.  A simple cocktail and my new favorite!  Try it for yourself!

Squeeze of lime.

Ginger beer and dark rum.

Fun striped straws are necessary.

Oh and you see that cutting board?  I got it for my birthday! Finally I have a Boos to call my own!!

Best Shamrock Shake Ever!

Yay! The weekend of St. Patrick’s day is upon us and it has been a beautiful week in So Cal.  When the sun is shining and leprechauns are running amuck, the only thing on my mind is a Shamrock Shake.  McDonalds coined this lovely name and their version is delicious.. but vanilla bean ice cream is SO much better than soft serve.  I whipped this up in no time and finished it even faster.  Thank you Saint Patrick!

Dryer’s doesn’t mess around when it comes to vanilla bean.  That stuff is good.  Mix it all in a blender! and you will get a green shake!

Then top with whipped cream and sprinkles!

Enjoy!

Shamrock Shake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups vanilla bean ice cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • multiple drops of green food coloring (until desired color is reached)

Directions

Add all ingredients in a blender and blend on high until combined. Top with whipped cream and sprinkles!

Sunny Spinach Smoothie

It is Wednesday!  That means I have to eat a healthy breakfast option.   If it were Sunday, I would be sharing some sort of delicious sticky bun waffles or something.  Week days are for eating healthy and I have to share with you my new weekday favorite.  I go back and forth on what the best breakfast is for me, and I still haven’t decided!  I like to eat something that is light, but can still keep me full until at least 10:30.  Throwing cereal in a bag was my thing for a while, but I would be always be starving by 9.  Then I would make egg whites and vegetables, which was so great, but I can never get up early enough to make that happen.  So this week my breakfast has been this delightful Spinach Smoothie.  I call it Sunny because it makes you feel vibrant and well, sunny!  I drink it once I get to work at 7:30, and it keeps me full until about 11:30.

Watermelon Martini

I can’t believe I have had this blog running for a week now and I have yet to write a cocktail recipe.  It is unacceptable and I apologize.  Anyways, I have been trying to think of a great summertime drink for a while and I think I found a new staple in my line up.  This drink is easy, healthy, and very refreshing!  Now the recipe called for 2 ounces of vodka, but I thought it was necessary to add a little extra.  Feel free to adapt as you wish!  I also suggest that you go make this as soon as possible because it is divine!!
